2: Can you introduce Yeti in the Basement?

Yeti is sort of our agency, and the party is called Yeti in the Basement. It’s a party that started 5 years ago in a basement in London. We used to have this party all the time, and the landlord used to live upstairs. The landlord would often come down to the basement and shut the party down, because we would make a lot of noise. The landlord looked a bit like a yeti, so every time he came to shut down the party, we were like “Wooo, Yeti in the Basement! Yeti in the Basement!”. So the first time we took a booking for a party, we decided to call ourselves Yeti in the Basement, as a tribute to all our parties in the basement. Since then we’ve taken it outside the basement, into clubs, art galleries, some festivals, museums and rooftops. We try to find more locations to take it to, to keep making it a fun party.

3: What about the cooperation with ELLE, the sound effect you did for the fashion video is really cool.

One friend Gabriel had reached out to us, he’s one of the video production guys at ELLE. They had been putting together a couple of short clips for Style TV. We basically help them curate the music and audio. We’re really excited to work with them, it’s a great crew of people. The video is really really interesting, it’s kind of more traditionally Chinese styled and based on a Kung Fu or martial arts idea. We thought that was a very interesting way to showcase their different outfits and different stylings, and it made it more interesting and inspirational for us o come up with audio and music for it.

4: What are the fun things you do outside of the party life?

We are really lucky, there’s no clock-in/clock-out. Work is play, play is work. But lately I spend all my time just answering e-mails, or putting together powerpoint presentations. Just following up on projects or work that is coming in. It’s not very sexy. If we are not working we’re finding inspiration or chilling out. Allan does a lot of illustration work and he’s been playing golf lately, fancy stuff!

5: After all the years you’ve lived in Shanghai, where are the places that you most recommend?

I think we all love to go party at Shelter, Arkham, Arcade, Kulou and Central Studios of course! We always end the night at the noodle place near Shelter, all the famous DJ’s have been there, but no one knows they are DJs, they think maybe they are just crazy foreigners.
